If you’ve been saving it to pour over pancakes, here are some brilliant new options, including bacon lollies, mouthwatering aubergines and some very grown up Rice Krispies I’ve often fancied getting into the maple syrup game – buying some Canadian woods, drilling some holes, hanging some buckets under some spigots. It seems like a low-stress pastime, and you get summers off. It turns out that they don’t hang buckets under spigots much any more. These days, they run hundreds of feet of blue plastic piping between the trees, a giant sap collection network that feeds a big tank. Watching YouTube videos of men assembling these vast systems is also, it turns out, a pretty low-stress pastime. Continue reading... from Recipes | The Guardian https://ift.tt/3m8hXMy via IFTTT

How to make the perfect Sachertorte – recipe | Felicity Cloake's How to make the perfect…

Soft but firm, delicately chocolatey, luscious with apricot jam – a ‘grown-up chocolate cake’ that gets better with age Myth swirls around this understated chocolate cake like damp autumn mist on the Danube – it’s claimed that it was created by a teenage apprentice for a state banquet , to have been Sigmund Freud’s favourite, to be impossible to make at home … But what is sadly indisputable is that, when they finally tuck into a slice, many people are underwhelmed. In the course of my research, I received many complaints that Sachertorte is dry and boring; as Nigel Slater has noted , many people find the “elegant simplicity” of “the world’s most famous, grown-up chocolate cake” a bit of a disappointment. It shouldn’t be. Done well, the Sachertorte is soft but firm, delicately chocolatey and luscious with apricot jam, but never squidgy or gooey. As Rick Rodgers writes in his book Kaffeehaus , “for this reason, Sachertorte is always served with a big dollop of lightly whipped, gently ...

Chickpeas are cheap and versatile. Our guide will tell you everything you need to know about cooking chickpeas including different varieties like dried, tinned, and even black chickpeas. Chickpeas are a variety of legumes that originated in the Mediterranean, Middle East, and parts of Asia but are enjoyed all over the globe. In different countries, they have alternative names so you may see them listed on the label or in a recipe as Garbanzo beans (in America or Spain) or Gram and Chana (in India). They have a creamy texture and a buttery, slightly nutty flavour.  You can buy chickpeas either dried or cooked and tinned. Either option is cheap and good to stock up the store cupboard with. Tinned chickpeas are the more low maintenance and efficient choice – you can use them straight from the can and then blend them into hummus, stir them into a stew or crisp them up in the oven and your dish is ready. They also contain the liquid aquafaba, which is a vegan egg white alternative, ...

Kirsten Dunst confirms she's expecting her second child with husband actor Jesse Plemons

Image
Congratulations are in order as Kirsten Dunst reveals her second pregnancy on the cover of W Magazine. Kirsten Dunst is ready to ‘Bring it On’ again with another baby. The actress announced she and her partner, actor Jesse Plemons, are expecting their second child during a cover shoot for W Magazine’s director’s issue. In an editorial taken by Sofia Coppola, the pregnant “Spider-Man” actress posed alongside Elle Fanning and Rashida Jones. Kirsten didn’t mention having a new baby because the focus of the article was on her partnership with Coppola. Fortunately for fans, Dunst’s baby bump was noticeable enough during the photoshoot, thanks to her figure-hugging handmade Rodarte gown. Although she did take a little harmless dig at the production as she said, “Every shot was on the floor. I was like, ‘I can’t get up.’ I felt like Urkel.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by W Magazine (@wmag) In January 2017, Kirsten and the...
